Top 3 Reasons to Join the Cyber Patriot Team
This year, Codecraft Lab is once again coaching a high school and middle school team for Cyber Patriot, the National Youth Cyber Defense Competition, and we would love to have you join us!
National Youth Cyber Defense Competition
This event challenges high school and middle school students to act as IT professionals who must manage a small company network. Students compete in teams of 2-6 at their state and regional levels and are evaluated on how well they can find and protect against known vulnerabilities on a virtual network.
Why Join the Codecraft Lab Cyber Patriot Team?
Reason #1:
Top teams earn an all-expenses-paid trip to Washington, DC, to compete in a national event to earn recognition and college scholarships (awarded to high school winners).
Reason #2:
The CCL teams have the opportunity to learn from the best in the world!
TJ OConnor will be serving as a technical mentor. He is a DoD expert on information security and twice co-coached the winning team at the National Security Agency’s annual Cyber Defense Exercise and won the National Defense University’s first annual Cyber Challenge.
Hahna Kane Latonick, will be serving as the team coach. In 2014, she placed 6th in the world at DEFCON CTF, known as the Olympics of Ethical Hacking, ranking in the top 1.5% of ethical hackers worldwide. Furthermore, she mentors the UCF Cyber Defense team, which has won the National Collegiate Cyber Defense Competition three years in a row!
Reason #3:
We’re going to have a blast! The lab sessions will be highly engaging and innovative. Our Cyber Patriot team fosters teamwork, inclusion, and community pride among students. Participants will develop their critical thinking, creativity, programming, problem-solving ability, and communication skills. Lastly, we will establish new friendships and mentorships as we represent Codecraft Lab and Brevard County throughout the competition.
